Objects look back, and their incoming gaze tells me what I am. Our sense of ourselves is like a television station always going out of focus, and we tune and clarify ourselves by seeing. Everything from our wives and husbands to our shoes and the grass in the park looks back and tells us who we are.” 1 I am working with large ceramic balls, the process of throwing, and a digital camera to create experimental short films. Light, sound, and movement highlight the unique material properties of clay while the use of a small digital camera enables one to see what the ceramic object sees. This could include being immersed in a rhythmic rumble as the large ceramic ball rolls down a path reaching a velocity the material can no longer take until the camera frame explodes, allowing light to flood the view. Or the hypnotic rising of a stoneware wall seen from the center of a piece during its creation on the wheel; water running down from the rim create glossy highlights dancing across the surface. The title is inspired by the BBC 'Interludes' in the 50's, where a clip of a person throwing a pot on the potters wheel would be shown between programs to fill empty space in the programming. The title also features the clay body used and any notable features during the video.
